Eczema management, Weaning & Primary Prevention of Allergies
Eczema (atopic dermatitis) is a non-contagious inflammatory skin condition which causes skin to be dry, itchy and inflamed.
Eczema is a risk factor for the development of food allergies. This is because our earliest exposures to food allergens is through our skin before we are ready to eat solids. The early introduction of allergens, once a child is developmentally ready, has been shown to reduce the risk of food allergy.
In Allergy Cork we are happy to meet families of high-risk infants prior to weaning to discuss eczema optimisation, practical advice on preparing for weaning and the prevention of food allergy.
We offer:
- Diagnosis of Eczema
- Treatment of Eczema: emollients, topical treatments, lifestyle and environmental factors
- Identify potential triggers
- Education to optimise Eczema management
- Food allergy prevention in the setting of Eczema
